Kathy's Quills
Paper quilling is a very ancient art, dating back to the 1500s. The intricate art was frequently created by nuns and monks to provide decorative ornamentals for the monasteries.
The art enjoyed a resurgence in the late 1800s when young, well-to-do ladies in their teens and twenties would gather to create framed art. Their designs were updated versions of the religious pieces of centuries before, but the technical process remained quite similar.
Today, paper quilling art is still being created in a wide range of styles. Mine tends to be more traditional and detailed than some of my fellow artists. I admire some of the free-flowing, colorful, whimsical styles of others.
Below you'll see just a small sampling of some of my creations. There are many more photos of my work at Facebook.com/kathysquills.
